Ice climbing

Ice climbing is a sport where you quickly learn the basics to get started. And as with many other things, Sälen is a good place to start. We have a beginner wall, a wall in Älvdalen which is step two, and for those who have started their climb, there is Njupeskär - the highest waterfall in Sweden.
Ice is constantly changing and creating new forms, which gives also experienced climbers new challenges in the same area. Fantastically beautiful formations, to challenge and to manage an ice wall creates both adrenaline and endorphin - an incredibly strong sense of mastering both height and technique.

EquipmentDress like a day in the ski slope even with alpine boots - ski boots need to fit for your own comfort. Bring your own or rent in Sälen. Warm down jacket is good to have as well

Beginner climbing in Sälen

We start the day by going through equipment, technique and a short brief about the difference between types of ice. As we approach the ice wall, we put on equipment and practice different ways of walking with the crampons under our feet and also test our axes before we start to climb to the top. We take a lunch break by the fire and then we continue for a while. This is a day to learn something new and different, enjoy nature or just get a break from skiing.

Step 2 Älvdalen - Trängslet

You’ve climbed before and are craving a little more challenging walls. We will go through techniques for securing partner and lead with ice screws. There are a number of different climbing opportunities and also the chance to try mixed climbing. Transport to the starting point is by car or by booking. The price includes a lunch we cook on site, and of course equipment. You have clothes for a full day outdoors, as well as reinforcement garments and ice climbing shoes or ski boots.
